Labs and Classrooms

Public Computing

Three computing venues are available at the MMLC:

  • Room 1-301: a computer-equipped teaching classroom with 20 Apple iBook stations (PowerPC G4 processor) and 1 Mac mini teacher station (PowerPC G4 processor). This room is exclusively for reserved class use.
  • Room 1-315: a full-service main computer lab and classroom with 20 student, and 1 instructor Apple iMac computers (Intel Core2 Duo, 20" display). A wide variety of software titles is available. The lab can be reserved for class use.
  • Room 1-335: a cluster of 12 Macintosh computers (G4 eMac) in an open-use (drop-in any time) lab

Note: The main lab (1-315) is open for public use during MMLC hours.

AV and Smart Classrooms

Kresge 1-301 is the primary MMLC Language Lab Classroom.
This room houses 20 student iBook computers equipped with PowerWave audio interfaces and the MMLC's own DiLL software. This provides a feature-rich, easy-to-use digital language lab environment.

Language Lab Features:

  • Allows pairing and n-way grouping of student stations for recording of pairs, triplets, quartets, &c.
  • Allows multiple task types: Lesson-based activities, recording-only, synchronized recording activities.
  • Centralized recording with web-based instructor review in and outside of class.
Kresge 1-375 is the MMLC Smart Classroom

This room has 55 moveable desks, and allows teaching and presentation from a multimedia kiosk and features:

  • Apple Mac mini (Intel Core2 Duo processor) with built-in DVD drive & player
    • Mac OS X 10.4
    • Microsoft Office 2004 (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Overhead projection of TV video and computer video at maximum 1024x768 resolution.
  • VHS VCR
  • Multi-Region, Multi-Standard DVD Player
  • Touch Panel Remote Control unifying most functions
The Faculty Development Lab ("FacDev"), accessible through Room 1-347

Serving faculty with several cutting-edge tools, this facility is used primarily to assist faculty with their own multimedia initiatives and projects. Some of this lab's goodies include:

  • Two Macintosh G4 Computers (Mac OS X)
  • One Dell Dimension Pentium III Xeon computer with Windows Vista, MS Office 2007
  • Extensive collection of Macintosh authoring tools that can be installed as needed, including: Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks; Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, PageMaker, GoLive; Apple Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, iMovie, iDVD.
  • CD writer/burner  
  • Image Acquisition: Canon CanoScan 8600F flatbed page scanner
